Guitar Tuner: Download Tuner.exe File size: 33K
Want to get the source notes for tuning your guitar from your computer? This program plays all six notes individually, and in some handy sequences that do the whole lot. I recommend you press space, and follow through the sequence that covers them all.
Simple Scales Program. Download Scales.exe File size: 33K
What it does: Plays Major Scales Up and Down. Plays minor scales up and down. It keeps moving into the next octave, so if you go up or down far enough, you will reach the limits of your system's sound - or your ears. Great for schools, and people who want to learn the difference between major and minor.
Latest Practice Tip:
Use media Player to create a practice set of songs. Play through them all EVERY DAY. Then create 4 sets (45 mins or so each) and you've got enough songs to play a full length gig. You will be glad you did if you manage this one.Practice Tips

Music Learning Application 4:
Eartrain 2.3 - Ear Trainer for the Major Scale - DownloadUpdated on 19-4-05. File size: 37K. For PC. For beginner/intermediate music students
- Well suited to beginners of any age. Excellent for high school students.
What it does: Tests on what scale degree of the major scale is being played. Helps with the development of transcription skills, as gives a solid understanding of which scale degree in the key the student is hearing. Starts off playing the root note. So the student knows where the key center is. The user has to press the number of the next note they hear. Replays if incorrectly answered. This program can greatly advance someone's ear training ability. Excellent for NCEA LEVEL 1.
Music Learning Application 3:
Learn the Key of C - DownloadUpdated on 14-5-05. File size: 41K, for beginner/intermediate music students
- Well suited to beginner high school students of any age.
What it does: Not just the key of C now, also covers chord construction in the keys of F and G major.
In the first level, it prompts users to name the notes in the key of C for each of the scale degrees 1 to 8. Gives positive feedback for correct answers. Tallies score - compare over days. Has percentage of correct answers too, so excellent for schools and children who try to cheat. Levels 2 and 3 ask the user to enter the note for a particular scale degree in either C or F.
Simply download the game keyofc.exe and place it on your desktop. Get students (or yourself) to use it DAILY to get the best results. You will be glad you did. The next step is to download and use the chords.zip, the chords program below.
Here is the 2nd Music Learning Application:
Learn the Stave - DownloadUpdated on 19-4-05. File size: 48K (Tiny)
What it does: Teaches and tests on how to read the notes on the stave. Covers both Treble and Bass clefs. Gives positive feedback for correct answers. Tallies score - compare how well you did today with yesterday. Has percentage of correct answers too, so excellent for schools and children who try to cheat.
How to use: Download the game learnsta.exe and place it on your desktop. Remember to use it DAILY to get the best results. You will be glad you did. The next step is to play it on your instrument of course.
Music Learning Application 1:
Learn to construct and spell chords - DownloadFormat: .Zip file. Updated on 27-3-05.
How to use: Unzip the .zip file into the folder "C:/Program Files". It puts the files into a folder named "chords". Run the file CHORDS.EXE.
It would be a good idea to create a shortcut to this file on your desktop, because it will only be of use if you remember to use it. :)
It will help students (including adult students of course) to learn to spell basic chords. It covers the scale degrees needed for major, minor, diminished and augmented at the first level, but has 6 levels. It runs in DOS, so don't be fooled by it's chunky, 80's style words.
System requirements: IBM compatible PC. (It will run on almost anything.)
File Size: 31K (Tiny)
There are some great ideas in this software, so download them and get people using them regularly. And bookmark this site if you want to quickly improve your music because there will be more and more programs here as time goes on.
